The Marshals Service has a long history of providing assistance and expertise to other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in support of their fugitive investigations. Deputy Marshals currently participate in 132 cooperative task forces around the country, and the Marshals Service is the lead agency in 83 of them. The majority of the task forces are full-time efforts; however, some are ad hoc groupings which operate only in response to a specific case or a targeted group of fugitives.   The Marshals Service arrested more than 36,000 federal felons last year, which is more than all other law enforcement agencies combined .
